Final state approved for ESSER funds.
The U.S. Department of Education received proposals from every U.S. state and territory in June of last year to receive federal funding through the America Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) plan, which made $81 billion available for use. Last week, Vermont was the final state to receive approval for their proposal, receiving $285 million in funding and signaling the full distribution of the ARP ESSER budget among all 50 states.
Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced Vermont’s approval, stating, “The approval of these plans enables states to receive vital, additional American Rescue Plan funds to help keep schools open for full-time, in-person learning; meet students’ academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs; and address disparities in access to educational opportunity that were exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.”
